The Ultimate Decision

The Board of Health has determined that Sanitation is the winner of the debate.  Good job to all the other teams that defended their positions today!

Education

Lastly is Education! Education believe that it is important to educate oneself on Ebola to prevent spreading the disease.  It is important to wash your hands, know the symptoms of Ebola, and receive proper treatment.  Different ways of proper treatment are to maintain oxygen status and blood pressure, treat other infections, and provide IV fluids and balance electrolytes.  Education stated that their position is the most important preventive measure of Ebola because it is the first step to prevention. They believe if a person does not have proper education on Ebola then Ebola is more likely to spread.  Nutrition is the first rebuttal against Education.

Quarantine

Quarantine is up now and educating everyone on the definition of quarantine.  There are two types of quarantine, hospital quarantine and self quarantine.  Hospital quarantine is much more effective than self quarantine because it is performed by trained health professionals.  Currently only four people in the United States have been effected by Ebola. They discussed the importance of protecting healthcare workers while treating ebola, the enforcement of quarantine, and the history of other quarantine situations. Sanitation is up after to rebuttal.

Sanitation

It is now Sanitations turn to defend their position!  Their main argument is to wear proper protective clothing.  This will protect the body and decrease the possibility of developing Ebola.  They discussed how Ebola spread so rapidly in Western Africa due to funeral culture.  Many of the dead bodies would be touched which spread bodily fluid between non-contaminated citizens.  It is important to sterilize a person's body to eliminate all possibilities of contamination! Quarantine will be up afterwards to rebut against Sanitation.

Nutrition

The Nutrition Team fought that the best was to prevent Ebola is via a person's nutrition.  They argued that the source of Ebola is from bush meat, so if people avoid consuming bushmeat then the source of Ebola will eliminated.  They also discussed the Western African diet, the countries the United States receives food imports from, and the importance of micronutrients when trying to fight against Ebola.  Currently the other teams are rebutting against Nutrition.
